Organic skin care product

"Organic" refers to a product that is made without synthetic chemicals, pesticides, herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, fertilizers or other toxic substances. Such products also do not have artificial colors and/or flavors added to them. Organic certification excludes materials that have been subjected to radiation and also genetically modified organisms (GMOs). The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) issued three classifications for organic products.

• 1. 100 per cent organic: These products contain ingredients that are completely organically produced
• 2. Organic: These products contain a minimum of 95 per cent organic ingredients.
• 3. Made with organic ingredients: The organic content is at least to the extent of 70 per cent. Such products do not carry USDA organic seal.

It is estimated that women have been exposing themselves to more than 100 unwarranted chemicals everyday, majority of them known to contain carcinogenic or toxic substances, when they cleanse their face with products that promise the moon. Organic products help overcome such problems. Among them, organic skin care product is growing quite fast, notching up a sale of US$122 billion during 2000 and growing at 1.6%. In the US, the industry is growing at 3.4 per cent. There, the tendency to use natural ingredients is seen in every segment of organic skin care product.

Organic skin care products refers to items such as water (deionised), palm oil derivative called isopropyl palmitate, apricot kernel oil, glyderyl stearate SE derived from vegetable oils, tocopherol oil for vitamin E, shea butter from karite, wheat germ oil, carrot oil and others. The organic skin care product is used in the manufacture of different skin care products.

As far as the usage of organic skin care product is concerned, research across Europe found that spending on organic material is doubling every five years. According to a study, in 2006, 58 per cent of consumers in Europe are expected to turn to organic products. By buying a certified organic skin care product, you get best value for money.

The Japanese market has the largest per capita consumers of organic products with revenues crossing US $3.2 billion in 2002. In Japan, the organic skin care product is distributed through the local cooperative society. The growth in the segment is expected to continue in a similar manner for the next twenty years.
